[ROBOCOP] MAY BE GETTING A BRAZILIAN FOR ITS REBOOT


Brazilian director Jose Padilha [Elite Squad] is reportedly in talks to resurrect the stumbling RoboCop reboot. For anybody who has been living in a submarine for the last 20 years, RoboCop the 1987 Paul Verhoeven movie tells the tale of an unfortunate Police officer who nearly gets blown away in the line of duty, but luckily this is Detroit of the future, no not a wasteland operated by foreign corporations this is fiction, the Officer gets rebuilt as a crime fighting Machine part Man. Darren Aronofsky was originally slated to direct but bailed when MGM got broke big time. Padilha won the Golden Bear, the Berlin Film Festival's highest honor, in 2008 for his Elite Squad, a story of cops and corruption in his native Rio de Janeiro.  In addition to Elite Squad and its sequel, Padilha has done documentary work including the award-winning Bus 174. Expect something officially announced soon.
