William Fichtner [The Dark Knight, Heat] has officially joined the cast of Neil Blomkamp's [District 9] ambitious sci-fi behemoth Elysium. Fichter will play alongside Matt Damon Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley. No details have been released to which role Fichtner is playing but Damon is portraying an ex-con and actor. Wagner Moura plays the film’s main villain and is described as having "a crazy sense of humor." Not a lot is known on the plot but the film takes place 100 years in the future on another planet. Damon recently stated, "I've never done anything quite like this and I kind of responded to what's out there and what's in and what's good." Legendary conceptual artist Syd Mead, responsible for work on such iconic futuristic films as Blade Runner is also on board the project. Elysium is scheduled to begin filming this July in Vancouver and will hit theaters March 8th 2013.
