Ghostbusters 3, Bill Murray hates the idea but
Dan Akyroyd loves it. Way back in 2005 Hollywood.com reported that director Harold Ramis [Knocked up] planned to bring the Ghostbusters franchise back to life with a sequel starring Ben Stiller with Akyroyd and Rick Moranis [Louis Tully/The Key Master] but nothing ever came from this. But talking with Vanity Fair
Akyroyd recently stated, “I’m
working on the script now.”
A script that Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg [co-exec producers/writers on NBC’s The Office] have been
hired by Columbia Pictures/Sony to write. This as it turns out is the same script Bill Murray has been recently trashing. Speaking with GQ magazine in August, Murray opened up
about the process that the project has gone through, this time mentioning the
two writers specifically:
It’s all
a bunch of crock. It’s a crock. There was a story—and I gotta be careful here,
I don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings. When I hurt someone’s feelings, I
really want to hurt them. [laughs] Harold Ramis said, Oh, I’ve got these guys,
they write on The Office, and
they’re really funny. They’re going to write the next Ghostbusters. And they had just written this movie that he had
directed...Year One. Well, I
never went to see Year One, but
people who did, including other Ghostbusters, said it was one of the worst
things they had ever seen in their lives. So that dream just vaporized. That was
gone. But it’s the studio that really wants this thing. It’s a franchise. It’s
a franchise, and they made a whole
lot of money on Ghostbusters.”
Do we want another Ghostbusters? Doesn't it work so well because its the right film at the right time, Sigourney Weaver never looked so sexy and its probably the most iconic film of the 80's, Where do you go with the story? These guys would be having retirement parties by now.
