JUDGE DREDD GETS A TITLE & PLOT SYNOPSIS

The 2012 Judge Dredd film starring Karl "Éomer Bones" Urban has a new title "Dredd" and a new plot synopsis.

Here's the synopsis of the $45 million film from IM Global:
DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip
The upcoming Judge Dredd movie is simply "Dredd," will be "neo-noir action"
Pre-production for the film began August 23 in Capetown Africa. As previously reported, Olivia Thirlby, who played Juno's best friend Leah and Johnathan Ames' ex-girlfriend on Bored to Death, will portray Rookie Psychic Judge Cassandra Anderson of the Mega-City One Psi Division. In the comics, Anderson's psychic gifts helped ward off the malicious undead Judge Death. Does her presence indicate that we'll see everyone's favorite evil ghost cop as the baddie? No because you can read the script here:

The new title seems to imply that the filmmakers are making a clean break with the Rob Schneider buddy movie antics of the first film.
