Darren Aronofsky directing, Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis as the lead trio, Black Swan is very very exciting. Swan follows veteran ballet dancer Nina (Portman), who finally secures her coveted spot as the chief performer among her company, and seems to be drawing closer to her artistic director (Cassel). But then a younger rival (Kunis) arrives at the school, and the competition for the lead in a production of Swan Lake sees Nina start to spiral into a world where truth and fiction blur and she starts having some serious issues.
A meditation on pressure and the personal intensity between rivals, Black Swan appears to find Aronofsky at the height of his powers, blending erotic tension with some startling visual work. Plus, the three leads (plus the likes of Barbara Hershey as Nina’s ex-dancer mother), all seem to be contributing sterling performances. The trailer is now online.
