Xerses was mentioned as a possible 300 sequel /prequel by Frank Miller a long time ago and the first question that arose was would 300 director Zack Snyder be adapting it as a movie? After Snyder confirmed his interest in the project the next question was when would Miller get around to finishing it?
But now Xerxes has officially begun its transformation from graphic novel to film despite the book not having a release date yet. Synder has once again partnered with fellow 300 scribe Kurt Johnstad on the screenplay for the prequels adaption. Synder spoke to L.A Times: "We're closed the writing deal on Xerses. We started writing about a week ago. So we're doing it, its happening". But its still unclear on whether Synder will take the directers chair once again. He stated: "Its really going to depend on what the studio wants to do and what we do when we finish; I don't have a directing deal in place but we are writing it so I call it intent"
