Universal Pictures are currently negotiating terms with director Gary Shore to helm Dracula Year Zero, a project which previously had Alex Proyas attached to direct & Sam Worthington as the lead. Screenwriters Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless have penned a new draft of the screenplay. Michael De Luca continues on the project as producer. The project had been in development for a while, even preparing to shoot, but was shut down over budget. Hit the jump for the details.
Description: "Dracula Year Zero" explores the origin of Dracula, weaving vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler. It seeks to depict Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war."
Similar to Frank Miller's Batman: Year One, Dracula Year Zero retells the origin of the dark vampire Dracula. Sam Worthington on the project "[It's] both a kind of an ode to Bram Stoker's original Dracula, in that it's kind of a prequel to that, but it also redefines the character to such an extent that I found it quite exciting."
