Ridley Scott recently made a couple of statements giving some insight the much debated connection between Prometheus & his 1979 original Alien. Hungarian movie website FilmSite.hu quoted the director on the topic & also revealed which role Guy Pearce would play. Hit the jump for the details.
Scott: "When the first 'Alien' movie and 'Blade Runner' were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in 'Blade Runner', and Weyland-Yutani in 'Alien'. They sent the Nostromo spaceship. The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That's the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well."
The director also stated to Empire Magazine:
Scott: "It's hard to frighten people. I think it is easier to make people laugh. I know Ricky Gervais will tell me to go fuck myself, but actually it is harder to scare. People are numb to it now. You've got to get dramatically cleverer.I've literally applied everything I know to try to make this a good ride, but mostly a guy hanging from the ceiling really fucking works..."Translation courtesy of AlienPrequelNews.
