The First Official Teaser for Ridley Scott's 'PROMETHEUS' is Finally Here!

It has been a long wait, it has been worth it. Today 20th Century Fox have released the first teaser for Ridley Scott's epic return to sci-fi behemoth Prometheus. Many like myself have been patiently waiting, salivating in anticipation for our first true glimpse at the quasi prequel to Scott's 1979 unquestionable masterpiece Alien. From its incarnation it has felt like a dream come true, in an industry flooded with redundant unimaginative & soulless movie templates my hat goes off to Fox for bringing this all together. Thus far all we have seen are the set images, the rough screen captures & carefully prescribed descriptions ..enough! As much as I hate the studios I do also love what they occasionally do. So go ahead & hit the jump to check it out the first official teaser for Prometheus in HD.

Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Guy Pearce, Rafe Spall, Benedict Wong, Emun Elliott & Logan Marshall-Green. The movie hits theaters June 8th 2012. Scripted by Damon Lindelof, Jon Spaihts & Scott.

Synopsis: "Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race."

The 30 second teaser features many behind the scenes clips coupled with an introductory voice over by Scott & reveals that an exclusive first look of the trailer will be on iTunes this Thursday, December 22nd.

The Director also chatted to Icelandic blog Filmophilia earlier in July & the site has just published its interview in which Scott reveals some pretty interesting info regarding Prometheus & on its relationship to Alien.

Ridley Scott: "I mean, you could actually say, and there’s a quote I did, a pretty good quote: By the end of the third act you start to realize there’s a DNA of the very first alien, but none of the subsequent aliens. To tell you what that is is a pity, and I’m not going to tell you, because it’s actually pretty good, pretty organic to the process and to the original. But we go back, we don’t go forward."

On original Alien Concept Designer H.R Giger's involvement with Prometheus.

Ridley Scott"I showed him what we were doing, showed him the story and he liked it a lot. So he’s doing a little bit of work for me. He’s been doing some murals, big murals, which we’ll see in almost one of the first chambers we encounter when we land where we’re gonna go."

On the involvement of the Space Jockey?

Ridley Scott"... I always figured it’s a weapon, and I always figured that [the ship in the first Alien] was a carrier of weapons. Therefore, who is that, inside that suit? That wasn’t a skeleton, that was a suit. And if you open up the suit, what do you get inside it? And why were they going, where were they going?"

Would we see Xenomorphs in Prometheus?

Ridley Scott"No. Absolutely not. They squeezed it dry. He (the xenomorph) did very well. (He laughs) He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"
