David Fincher Discusses Shooting Sequels to 'THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO'!

David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo hits theaters this coming week. The adaptation based on Swedish author Stieg Larsson's best-selling trilogy stars Rooney Mara as the much troubled computer hacker Lisabeth Salander & Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist, investigative journalist & publisher of Millenium magazine. The pair have stated they plan to continue with the franchise as it moves forward. Fincher although has not yet officially signed on to direct, is already looking to the future and disscussing how he would like to shoot the next two installments, The Girl Who Played With Fire & The Girl That Kicked The Hornet's Nest back to back. The director stated his reasons why & how he would shoot parts 2 & 3 after the jump. Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgård, Christoper Plummer, Joely Richardson, Steven Berkoff, David Dencik, Yorick van Wageningen, Bengt C.W. Carlsson, Mathilda von Essen & Goran Visnjic also star.

Fincher: "Classically movie studios don't make deals with director even if there's a hope that there's going to be 3, because they want to make sure that you behave. But yes, the second two books are very much one story. It doesn't seem prudent to me to go to Sweden for a year, come back for a year, put out the second one, go to Sweden for a year, go back for a year…"
The Academy-award nominated director also revealed that Rooney Mara would reprise her role as Lisabeth Salander in both films & that shooting back to back would be more practical.

Fincher: "I don't think Rooney wants to be doing this four years from now. That I think would be crazy, especially given the sense that it's really one story that's bifurcated in the middle."
No script for either movie has begun but Collider revealed that screenwriter Steve Zaillian was confident he could complete both scripts ready for filming to begin in late 2012.
