J.J. Abrams Officially Confirmed To Direct 'STAR TREK 2' for Paramount!

J.J. Abrams is officially directing Star Trek 2 for Paramount Pictures. While the Lost & Fringe creator was always set to produce & has been working on the script with Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci for some time, he had never officially signed on to helm the movie until now. The project currently in pre-production is awaiting a finished script which is expected to arrive at the end of the month & all going well shooting will commence this winter. Its no surprise Abrams returns to direct the sequel to his 2009 successful reboot Star Trek, the studios originally penciled in July 29th 2012 as the release date, but Paramount placed G.I. Joe 2 in that spot instead when it looked like Abrams wouldn't be able to make the date. The director was not available to start working on Star Trek 2 due to his movie Super 8. Vulture who broke the story state that part of the delay has also been down to Kurtzman, who has been co-writing the screenplay with Orci. Kurtzman has been committed on directing Welcome to People. There is no new release date for Star Trek 2.
