Lionsgate have according to Variety given Pete Travis' Dredd a release date. This is not unexpected. The movie will hit theaters on September 21st, 2012. Based on the Judge Dredd comic series from 2000AD, the second big screen adaption stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby & Leana Heady. Warner Bros Superman: Man of Steel has been pushed back six months. The studios had intended to release the film in December 2012, but the studio will now open the movie on June 14th 2013. There has been no official statement on why the movie is opening Summer 2013 instead, most likely its because the script is still a bit of a mess really. Screenwriter Kurt Johnstad was recently drafted in to sort it out. Henry Cavill plays Superman & is joined by Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner & Michael Shannon. The move does benefit December tentpoles, like The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey & The Lone Ranger, but one can argue that it also sets Man of Steel up in a more appropriate summer blockbuster slot. The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-man & The Dark Knight Rises will battle for summer 2012 supremacy, while Man of Steel vies with Iron Man & Thor sequels in 2013.
