Its been a long time coming [2006], and by all accounts probably worth the wait. The trio behind the Game, 20th Century Fox, Sega and Gearbox have announced that the FPS will arrive in 2012 and have released a teaser trailer at E3 in Los Angeles. The trio are calling the title, "a true sequel to James Camerson's classic Aliens." Scripted by Battlestar Galactica writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle the game continues after Alien 3 where the abandoned U.S.S Sulaco is found in orbit around LV426. Players take on the role of a Colonial Marine search and rescue unit sent aboard the ship to find out what happened to the crew. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to be a 4 player co-op, the official press release stating, "The whole campaign can be played with a squad of up to four players, dropping in and out as necessary through self-contained missions within an over-arching narrative." Staying up to date with current FPS standards, A:CM will also feature upgrades and player growth: "An extensive upgrade system allows players to customize their characters to play the way they want. Earn experience to get perks, new weapons and new looks for your squad." Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox stated:
"To Gearbox Software and its peers throughout the industry, ALIENS is one of the most influential science fiction properties of all time. Aliens: Colonial Marines, designed as an interactive successor to the landmark films from Twentieth Century Fox, is a dream project about which our studio is deeply committed and passionate."
Aliens: Colonial Marines arrives on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in Spring of 2012.
