Yes its true, the first footage from Ridley Scott's Prometheus is set to be revealed a lot sooner than expected. The first preview of the highly anticipated Sci-fi behemoth will take place in Amsterdam this week. The Cinema Expo International Europe convention and trade show, rebranded CineEurope for its 20th year anniversary begins today and it is the longest running and most prestigious event for European cinema exhibition and distribution communities, that brings together 2,500 cinema exhibition professionals from 60 countries to do business and 20th Century Fox International have slated in a preview of Prometheus in the schedule. [Update:] David Pinedo has now confirmed that some of the main cast of Prometheus will also be attending the Expo. Hit the jump for the details.

Holland Film Nieuws correspondent David Pinedo tweeted the following:

The Expo ends this Friday [June 30th] at the RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre in Amsterdam. What footage exactly will be shown we do not know, Unfortunately the expo is Industry only and not open to the public. Amongst the event European theater owners will get an early screening of the final film in the Harry Potter franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 on June 30th, a week before the film has its official worldwide premiere in London July 7th, then July 15th in the U.S. Fox are scheduled to be presenting in the RAI Auditorium on Tuesday June 28th at 7.30pm CET. We got wind of Prometheus being presented at this years Comic Con beginning the 21st of July and have a hunch that the first teaser will arrive with The Rise of The Planet of The Apes on August 5th so there is plenty to look forward to. Props to AlienPrequelNews for tracking down that tweet.

Fox seem to be taking a similar route with Prometheus which they took with promoting James Cameron's Avatar. In 2009 the first ever footage from the much guarded 3D Epic was screened at the Cinema Expo in Amsterdam.

Then one month later a featured panel and screening took place at Comic-Con in Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center. Its also worth mentioning keeping an eye on the following domain www.prometheusmovie.com which was registered by Fox on January 6th earlier this year. Once the promotional material begins to seep through this site should go live.
