Lionsgate announced today that actress Willow Shields has been cast in the role of "Primrose Everdeen" in The Hunger Games, little sister to heroine Katniss, in the highly anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins' excellent novel. Jennifer Lawrence will play "Katniss", Josh Hutcherson her game partner "Peeta", her best friend "Gale" will be played by Liam Hemsworth, the District 11 tributes "Thresh" and "Rue" will be played by Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg while District 1 career tributes "Glimmer" and "Marvel" will be played by Leven Rambin and Jack Quaid. Elizabeth Banks is in talks to play "Effie Trinket", a mentor to Katniss and Peeta. Director Gary Ross commented on the casting decision, "Its so exciting to find an amazing young actress like the one we just met. Prim is an emotionally demanding role and in many ways she is the cornerstone of the story. Willow Shields will make an amazing Prim and we're very lucky to have her."
