Put simply The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is one of the best books of the last five years, set in a dystopian future where the United States has been broken into 12 districts all controlled by a central government. Each year, the government forces the districts to select two children to compete in the nationally televised "Hunger Games", a fight to the death where the winner brings glory and food to their district. The star is a 16-year-old named "Katniss Everdeen" who volunteers for the games when her little sister is chosen. If you have not read the book I seriously recommend it. The big screen adaption directed by Gary Ross is gathering pace, Jennifer Lawrence [Winter's Bone] has been cast as the lead "Katniss Everdeen", today Deadline report that the producers are closing in on choices for the male lead roles, and are down to specific actors for the parts. Liam Hemsworth is the fruntrunner for "Gale Hawthorne", & Josh Hutcherson is the front runner for to be "Peeta Mellark". Hutcherson is next starring in Detention whereas Hemsworth is best-known for his on-again, off-again relationship with Miley Cyrus. No official offers have been made but you can expect updates quite soon. The Hunger Games will hit theaters March 23, 2012.
