Ridley Scott has brought in screenwriter Jeffrey Caine [The Constant Gardener] to flesh out a biopic of Gertrude Bell, a famous ninteenth century writer, archeologist and political officer who traveled the middle east in the first years of the 20th century, becoming a powerful figure in the political administration of the region and helped establish what is now modern day Jordan and Iraq. Deadline broke the news. Scott is developing the project under his Scott Free banner with his partner Giannina Facio who will co-produce. Werner Herzog is actually also planning a Bell biopic, the film titled Queen of the Desert with Naomi Watts attached to star. Its not known whether Scott's project will follow Prometheus.
