JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT WILL PLAY "ALBERTO FALCONE" IN [BATMAN: TDKR]

The word on the street yesterday was that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt had officially been conformed as a mystery lead in Christopher Nolan's Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Now Variety claim to know what role Levitt will play, the site states:

"Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone, son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone, who Tom Wilkinson played in “Batman Begins,” insiders tell Variety's Jeff Sneider. The younger Falcone would bring Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” trilogy full-circle, and fits with the director's stated intentions for continuity and “realistic” villains."

The character, "Alberto Falcone" in the comic series is in fact based on "Fredo Corleone" in Francis Ford Copolla's The Godfather series, but he also has certain noted characteristics similar to "Michael Corleone". Falcone was a primary antagonist from the Joseph Loeb and Tim Sale Batman series The Long Halloween and Dark VictoryWhile the news of Levitt's role may be perfectly legit, no official confirmation form the studios has taken place. Batman: The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, and Levitt, The movie hits theaters July 20th 2012.
