SONY PURCHASES NEIL BLOMKAMPS [ELYSIUM] FOR $120 MILLION, SYD MEAD WILL DESIGN THE SETS


Neill Blomkamp's Elysium, his follow up District 9 is gathering pace. With casting securing the talents of Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley, the film has been picked up by Sony for $120 million dollars. Blomkamp stated "I literally could not be happier. I have a brilliant relationship with Sony. I loved them during District 9, they 100% get this film and they get me. Elysium is in very good hands." While very little is actually known about the story Deadline report that the film will take place 100 years into the future, and described it quite humorously as “an unabashedly big movie, with has the same social allegory of District 9". The legend that is Syd Mead, whose credits include Blade Runner, Aliens & Tron will design the sets for the movie. Deadline state that the film will begin prep in April and shift north in July to start shooting in Vancouver, then south to Mexico City to shoot in the fall.
