Another rumor has been circulating throughout the international interweb for the last 48 hours, this time it links "RW" to the role of Doctor Hugo Strange. The rumor is based on a tweet from Batman On Film. The Bat site has been a source of Batman news for quite some time and it was those guys who put forward Bane weeks prior to the announcement of Tom Hardy's casting. Now firstly "RW" is a bit ominous, however this is the rumor business and it relates to something we covered earlier. In November we were given some info from one of our sources that Christopher Nolan's final Bat-fink-flick would be based on Doug Moench's epic graphic Novel "Prey" and we also informed that Tom Hardy was not necessarily going to play Hugo Strange so that potentially fits.
We were also given a snippet of extra info from the same source that came to be true, but Robin Williams as Hugo Strange? Like any Bat-fink-fanatic will know Williams has a very unlucky history with Bat projects. The actor has been attached to about every Villain role in every big screen adaption of the Bat franchise, he has actually already been linked with Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. Way back in June Williams stated: "The Batman films have screwed me twice before: years ago they offered me The Joker and then gave it to Jack Nicholson, then they offered me The Riddler and gave it to Jim Carrey. I’d be like, ‘OK, is this a real offer? If it is, then the answer’s yes. Don’t pump me again motherf**kers," Now this still doesn't mean anything more than rumor and I don't like writing articles based on "tweets", so why do I?, well hypothetically this is not the first time Nolan and Williams would be working together, Williams played the villain in Nolan's 2002 thriller: Insomnia and I know Nolan greatly praised his effort. Do I believe Hugo Strange will play a part in Batman: The Dark Knight Rises? Yes unreservedly. Do I think Robin Williams will be involved? I would think Williams would bring something to the role, but I will believe it when I see it. Williams certainly looks the part and certainly has the range but as a Batman Villain? Expect Warner Bros. or Mork to make an announcement quite soon.
