George Clooney is set to play the real life role of Douglas Preston, an American thriller novelist who teamed up with Italian crime reporter Mario Spezi to investigate and Novelize the 30-year-old case of the Monster of Florence. Despite serious resistance from the Italian police, who at one point even jailed Spezi for being the killer himself [he wasn't]. Spezi and Preston managed to track down and find the killer, who was responsible for the death of seven couples between 1974 and 1985.
Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie was hired to pen the script back in 2008 when Tom Cruise was attached to the role. However, the movie won’t begin filming anytime soon, as McQuarrie is still working on the script with co-writer Nathan Alexander. McQuarrie will also co-produce the film with Fox. The news comes via Deadline.
