[ALIEN PREQUEL] TITLED "PROMETHEUS" STARRING NOOMI RAPACE & POSSIBLY ANGELINA JOLIE

Finally we have some concrete news, Deadline report that Alien Prequel has a title "Prometheus" The site reports that the film has "morphed" into something "more original", Their source is an "insider" but we can confirm with Twentieth Century Fox that this news is legitimate. Prometheus will get a worldwide release on March 9th, 2012. Of the five major roles to be cast, Noomi Rapace whom we knew had met with Scott way back in August is the first actor signed to star in the film as Elizabeth Shaw, and Deadline state that Angelina Jolie is circling the other big female lead: Vickers. Damon Lindelof [Lost] has been working closely with Scott on the original draft by Jon Spaihts.

Fox reportedly told the pair to "go off and come up with what they want" using the Alien DNA. Though story details are being closely guarded.

Scott explained the outlines of the film and its genesis as follows: “While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the singular tale I'd been searching for, and finally return to this genre that's so close to my heart.”

Lindelof explains: "In a world flooded with prequels, sequels and reboots, I was incredibly struck by just how original Ridley's vision was for this movie. It's daring, visceral and hopefully, the last thing anyone expects. When I sat in a movie theater as a kid, feet raised off the floor for fear that something might grab my ankles, I never dreamed in my wildest imagination I would one day get to collaborate with the man responsible for it. Working alongside him has been nothing short of a dream come true."

This is quite interesting, as Warner seem to have truly given Scott much more freedom with the project than earlier speculated, also its a very brave move considering the magnitude of the departure from a franchise with such a respected legacy. How far Scott will leave the "Prequel" dead in the water we will see, but I would rather see something fresh than a restricted storyline. But Scott does state "return to this genre that's so close to my heart" so make no mistake this is a Ridley Scott Alien film, not a full departure, H.R Giger is on board. With the release date 14 months from now expect a lot of casting announcements soon, in fact you expect the floodgates to open on this one shortly.
