LIONSGATE'S NEXT MAJOR FRANCHISE? [LEATHERFACE] IN 3D!

With the Saw Franchise coming to an end, Twisted pictures are turning their attention to a very different arena. The Saw studios have purchased the rights to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre after the rights were dropped by Platinum Dunes following their 2003 remake and 2006 prequel. Twisted Pictures venerable producer Mark Burg is focusing on Leatherface in 3D! He stated:

"Its 35 years later, there's a relative going back. Why is he going back? I don't want to set it in a dusty town. How do you make it more Urban and keep that feel. There will be some new relatives, some new people. There's still the subtext of 'are they eating these people? The whole idea of cannibalism, we're bringing it back!"

The Script is being penned by Debra Sullivan and Adam Marcus who co-wrote Conspiracy. So Leatherface 3D will pick up right after the end of the 1974 original and then jump 35 years forward. [Nice if you ask me]. There is no official word on a director but this does look like Lionsgate's next major franchise, after Paranormal Activity of course. But the Urban aspect I am not so sure about, aren't people still afraid of Hillbillies?
